Independent Eye Care Specialists
At James Herd Opticians, we offer a comprehensive range of eye care services to meet the needs of local people.
Eye Examinations
Regular eye examinations are essential for maintaining clear vision and protecting your long term eye health. As well as checking your eyesight, an advanced eye examination can detect early signs of eye conditions and other health concerns, often before symptoms appear.
At James Herd Opticians we offer NHS sight tests for those who are eligible.
We recommend enhancing your eye examination with an OCT (optical coherence tomography) scan for an even more detailed assessment of the eye health, at a cost of £20.
This is an advanced eye scan for people of all ages. The machine captures both a photograph and a cross-sectional scan of the eye at the same time. This scan can help with early detection and ongoing monitoring of a range of eye conditions such as glaucoma, diabetes and macula degeneration, providing greater reassurance and enabling timely treatment if needed. The scan is non-invasive, painless and quick to carry out.
NHS eye health screenings
We are proud to provide a range of NHS specialist eye care services delivered by our Optometrists who have completed additional training and accreditation. These enhanced services allow us to assess and manage a variety of eye conditions within the community, helping patients receive expert care closer to home.
Community Urgent Eyecare Service (CUES) provides urgent assessment, treatment or referral for sudden onset eye problems or minor eye injuries.
Pre and post cataract assessments, in which we work alongside the Hospital cataract surgery providers to ensure timely care and management.
Glaucoma screening and referral refinement provides an enhanced assessment for those whose eye test suggests they may be at risk of Glaucoma. Our accredited Optometrists perform additional testing and determine whether a hospital referral is necessary.
Childrens eyecare
Regular eye examinations are an important part of ensuring your childs eyesight is developing as it should, helping to identify any concerns that may affect their learning, confidence or everyday life.
We work closely with the local Hospital Eye Service and Orthoptic department to support the assessment and ongoing care of children’s vision. Through this collaborative approach, childrens vision is screened in school and referred to Royles Opticians for further assessment if required.
We offer a carefully selected range of children’s and paediatric frames designed to be durable, comfortable and stylish for every age. Our experienced team takes the time to ensure each pair is professionally fitted, providing the support and comfort needed for everyday wear.
